Why is he being distant?

I've been with my boyfriend for seven years. We've lived together since we started dating. Lately he has been becoming distant. This is the third time I've noticed in two years and the other times ran into eachother starting high going low then spiking into another episode. It didn't end until a wrong number caused him to think I was cheating. Its happening again and I'd rather not make him think I'm cheating just to get him to talk to me. Trying to talk only starts arguments because he's quick to put up defenses. After he became distant two weeks ago he tried to start an argument over my cooking which is bull because he said it was cold and we have a microwave so... I didn't give in to arguing instead I started keepin my distance from him and not talking like he has been doing. He hasn't cooked for himself, and doesn't like to because I spoiled him, for probably five years but has even started cooking for himself just to keep from communicating with me. I refuse to live this way with someone but don't want to have to put him out. I have no idea what to do next.
