Please help with official MTG rules citing!! About tapping a creatures ability for mana, using that mana?

I couldn't find the Official citing either. What might help though is if you explain mana cost as Colorless in a mana cost can be payed with anything, while colorless mana can only be used to pay for something that costs colorless mana.
