Can I get some help getting back into the Yugioh TCG?

I took a long break and didnt think I would ever play this again, but I heard from my good friend that my local card shop was starting up tournaments again and I pulled out my cards and remembered old times. I started in 2003 and quit in 2007 so it's been quite a while and I don't know what's competitive anymore. Can someone help an old Vet. get back into it? (still have no idea what a synchro is lol)
